St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School (Winning Team at All Hallows Catholic High College 2009)
Charlotte, Erin, Will & Aidan.
The team raised their money by having a raffle, which raised £15 and organising a monster making competition using recycled materials for the younger children.
The group were surprised by how difficult it was to plan and the time it took to arrange things. They found the competition from other groups tough, especially as they had the disadvantage of having their fundraiser last. The members of the team were not friends at the start of the process and would not necessarily have chosen to work together, but following their shared experience, they are now all friends.
Initially, the children thought it would be easy, but it wasn’t – they found there was a lot to think about! They had a lot of fun, but felt that they learnt a lot through their experiences. They were pleased by their successes, especially the fact they it meant they were able to help other people.
“Shocked as we thought there must be someone better”
“Good for our school because it’s so small, everyone was very proud of us.”
“Felt very important and proud – we will never forget it.”
“When we came back to school we pretended we came last, we had sad faces, then our teacher said what have you got up your jumper and we showed them the trophy and everyone cheered like at the FA cup final.”
“My Dad has his own business and he said ‘Great, another business person’. My Grandad said I was following in his footsteps. It was a good opportunity and I learnt a lot about teamwork. It has given me lots of confidence because I know I am one of the best and if I try I can achieve anything.”
“We were allowed to discover our best assets, I was the Managing Director. We were given lots of opportunities. It was fun but not easy. I had a great time”
“It’s something to look back on and be very proud of.”
“It shows a small school doesn’t mean small ideas. I look back and feel very proud.”
